IGOR METROPOL is a non-profit organization located in Budapest, and founded in 2011 by different professionals from the creative sector. Even though most of the founders live in other parts of the world now, we would like to continue our activities in our beloved city Budapest. Therefore, we are offering our studio space in a 1970s modernist office building for artists and cultural workers seeking a space to realize a specific project or wanting live and work in Budapest for a while.

The aim of our association is to foster the visibility of contemporary arts and culture in and from Hungary and to strengthen international relations between artists, cultural workers and creative thinkers in Europe. IGOR METROPOL is a volunteer based organization, and receives no operating funding. Working primarily project based, we acquire public grants, private sponsorships and donations according to the financial needs of the respective project. This approach grants a high level of independence and flexibility. You find our prior projects here.
With most of its founding members being busy in other cities, our association has been rather inactive in the past years. Through this open call we would like to reactivate the IGOR METROPOL STUDIO and provide our former HQ space for artists as studio.

What we provide is the space itself intended for working, our still existing contacts in Budapest to assist you with practical issues or to introduce you to the art scene if needed as well as administrative background and assistance in case you would like to apply for funding of your residency in Budapest. To celebrate the finished project or to foster acquaintances in Budapest, new artworks should be presented in an event at the studio space, open to the public. This could happen in the form of a studio exhibition, an artist talk, or an informal presentation on the rooftop-terrace, etc.

If you are interested, please send us a portfolio of your work incl. a CV, as well as a short description of the project / work, that you aim to complete in the Studio. There are no deadlines, applications are welcome throughout the year. Although the facilities of the studio don’t allow an accommodation on the spot we would assist you in finding a temporary flat or room in Budapest.

Max. duration of the residency: 3 months.
